Why I volunteer Nigel’s Story

After taking early retirement, Nigel found himself with some newly acquired spare time and wanted to do something worthwhile with it. Volunteering for Blood Bikes Wales gave him the opportunity to fill that time while giving something back to the community

Today, we shine the spotlight not only on Nigel, our Membership manager, but also on his dedicated team of Membership Secretaries across Wales

Just as we have riders and controllers in every area, we also have Membership Secretaries supporting volunteers throughout Wales. They are often the first point of contact for prospective members explaining how Blood Bikes Wales operates and guiding applicants through the joining process.

Behind the scenes, they work tirelessly to keep our membership records accurate and up to date, all while balancing full time jobs, family commitments’ and their own responsibilities. Throughout the year they are busy, but when membership renewals come around, things become positively manic!

Over the last 12 months, their patience, resilience and dedication have been tested as our IT manager, also called Nigel, has overseen major upgrades to our membership database. Despite challenges, the team has continued to ensure that records remain accurate, secure and fully compliant with GDPR requirements.

Regular evening meetings help them navigate the complexities of membership administration and keep everything running smoothly for the charity
