Why I volunteer

Today’s story is a little different.

As a controller , you build a special rapport with the riders. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with some wonderful volunteers, and Keith is certainly one of them.

Keith was a rider , and rota manager for our Wrexham area. He was always someone we could rely on, often stepping in early when help was needed. About 18 months ago, Keith decided it was time to “give up” Blood Bikes and spend more time enjoying retirement and visiting some exotic destinations.

Even though he stepped away from volunteering, he never really left us. He continued to follow our Facebook posts and kept a keen eye on what we were up to.

Then at the end of last year Keith commented on one of our posts and, in his own words, it’s my fault that he decided to re join us!

Ever the observant and particular person, Keith noticed that the area around our Wrexham lock up wasn’t looking its best. Drawing on his gardening skills, he has spent time tidying and improving the area because he wanted our neighbours to know we care about our surroundings.

And apparently that’s still my fault too!

Keith you are a wonderful volunteer and someone the whole charity can be proud of. Your willingness to step forward, spot a need and make a difference perfectly demonstrates what volunteering is all about.
